Life is like a box of chocolates

I left a box of chocolates on a bench seat today whilst I was out with Gabe. On it a note I had written which read …
“These are for you. I have left this here for you to find today in the hope it makes you smile and feel loved. Because you are”.
I had bought the pre wrapped chocolate truffles a few months ago as they were on special at the time for only $5 a box. I bought two. I have since given the other away (to the hotel receptionists when I recently spent a night in Sydney) but I still had the one remaining. Which, I had completely forgotten about until yesterday when I saw them in my cupboard.
So today I gifted them. To no one in particular, but I'm sure to the perfect person. The person who was most needing it today.
I trust it landed in the hands it needed too heart emoticon

A Coffee Would Be Lovely

You see this man I just met him. He is homeless and I just bought him a coffee. Now I am not posting this to show you all how great a person I am, but rather to prove how harmless and beautiful those that have nothing are.
So I'm in Sydney at the moment. Spending the night as I have something on tomorrow. Walking the streets just moments ago I passed a dark alley and saw this man just sitting there head down and sad. I smiled at him as I walked past and noticed, that unlike the many other homeless around, this guy didn't have a hat or cup out asking for money.
As I passed something made me stop and go back and approach him so I did. I wanted to help him somehow amd had purposely bought some money with me to bless someone.
I approached him and said

" Can I help you in anyway"? "Is there something I could get you?".

And you know what he said.

" A coffee would be lovely love".

So I said

"Ok I'll get you a coffee" and started to head off looking for a coffee when he got up and joined me.

"Oh your coming with me" I remarked.

He said

"Yes. Go in here at the 7 eleven coffees are only $1".

That is all he wanted. That is all he asked of me. A man who has absolutely nothing and sleeps on streets.
He was so grateful, kept calling me an angel when all I did was buy him a coffee for $1.
I stayed with him for a while in the 7 Eleven as he made his coffee and waited for the machine to be refilled and listened to his story. We all have a story.
This man taught me never to judge anyone. You don't know anyone's story, only your own. I am so proud of me for following my heart and connecting with a homeless man. A homeless man who when he looked at me with those sad eyes, only wanted love, to be heard, and not a coffee heart emoticon

School Yard Kindness

I volunteer every Friday morning to help out in my sons classroom at his school. I love it. But today I thought of taking it a step further and adding some random acts of kindness. So I took along a few $1 coins with me and scattered them around the playground for children to find at lunch.

Can you imagine how excited they will be when they find a $1!

Although only a $1 to a kid that is like us finding $20, its a big deal. Such a small little act but one that I know will have caused a little happiness today. We can all make a difference and I like to think that today I made a few children happy.

Flowers Say More Than Words

There is a lady named Kim who works at the nursing home I visit weekly. She is in her 50’s and is in charge of one of the morning tea trolleys. She also has down syndrome.

She’s beautiful and I love her. Every Monday when my two year old and I visit she always makes time for my son. She stops hands him a biscuit, sometimes two, and continues on her way. She is the only one that does.

So today I wanted to express just how much my son and I appreciate her and all she does, in more than just words. So on my way in this morning I stopped and bought this small bouquet of pink roses to gift her. Needless to say she loved them. She wasn't expecting it at all and although I’ve thanked her many times before, today these flowers said more than my words ever could.

I like to imagine that right now these pink roses are sitting somewhere in her home and every time she looks at them she is reminded just how much she means to someone and how special she is. Because that is exactly what they were intended to do.

Richard

I know a man with no legs. His name is Richard and having no legs, naturally, he is in a wheelchair, but that isn’t the point or relevant to this story.

I’ve come to know Richard quite well and have known him for about a year. Every week I visit a local nursing home and sit with and chat to the many residents there, including Richard.

Richard loves iced coffees, smoking and puzzles. Boy does he LOVE puzzles! He is actually quite incredible with them. He can complete a 1000 piece puzzle in under 2 weeks. I’m not sure if that’s impressive but to me it is. Then again he does have a lot of time on his hands being in a nursing home.

As often as I can I’ll bring Richard in an iced coffee but what I love most is buying him puzzles! I don’t do it often, 3-4 times a year. Every time there is a bookfair on here I pick up a few 2nd hand puzzles for a few dollars. Last week I did just that and today I was able to gift the puzzles to Richard.

Now, this is the thing. I never actually give them to him, instead I go to his table set out only for him and his puzzles and place the new puzzles on the table and walk away. He has no idea it’s me and I like it that way.

A few weeks later I’ll see him working on the new puzzle and telling me how he found a new one and how happy it made him.

Do you know how happy this makes me?

To know that I made him happy. That something I did, something so small can bring another person such happiness makes me just about weep. There is nothing I could ever buy that would give me the joy that giving joy to another person and making them happy does.

It’s such a simple thing but I love it, and it always has me thinking of all the little things we can do to make anothers day.

Free Coffee. On Me.

Someone was treated to a free coffee today. I don't know who they were or what they ordered, all I know is that it was on me.

I wanted to do something nice for someone and randomly whilst at the shops today went to buy myself a chai latte. I've heard about the people buying coffees for others before, a pay it forward type movement, but have never done it myself. Today I did.

I bought my chai latte and whilst it was being made tried to build up my nerve to do it. The cafe was empty at the time which helped me as I knew I could gift the coffee anonymously.

I looked at the menu and noticed regular/medium sized coffees were $4 and checked my purse and I had $4. So as the young guy called my name and handed me my chai latte I handed him the $4 and told him I wanted to buy the next persons coffee. He looked shocked and said "Are you sure?" I told him I was and handed him the $4 explaining that I noticed medium coffees were $4 and most people would probably order that size and asked him to gift the next person who did with the free coffee. My only condition was that he tell them a stranger had paid for their coffee today as an act of kindness to make their day.

Well you should have seen this young guys face! It completely lit up and his smile was so genuinely happy and I bet couldn't wait to do it. That there was worth it for me. He told me I was so kind and I told him I like to do this sort of thing occasionally to show others there is kindness in this world.

It was only small act I know but can you imagine how much it would have made that next persons day? I also hope the young guy today shares what happened and maybe even some day feels inspired to do the same.

Try it some time. You won't be disappointed!

Tim Tam Kindness

These are Tim Tams and if your Australian you will know them well. They are a double chocolate biscuit with the most decadent chocolate cream center.

Tim Tams are currently holding a promotion which requires you to purchase two packets to enter and so I have been. But what I love about all this is due to my excess of Tim Tam biscuits, I've decided to get creative. I have started a Tim Tam Kindness. I take a packet with me daily and bless whoever I come across and feel would benefit from them.

Today I gave a packet to the staff at my sons school front office. They were so overjoyed and all came over to hug and kiss me. It was so heart warming to see how much a packet of biscuits can touch the heart of someone and cheer them up.

I have also given packets to some elderly ladies in a nursing home and will bless my local librarians with a packet when I visit them next week.

Promotion aside I have become addicted to my Tim Tam Kindness and every time I'm at the store I look forward to buying packets just so I can find creative ways to gift others with biscuits. It is wonderful and now its your turn ... can you gift someone biscuits today?

Starting Conversations

You know what I love? How kindness and love spreads.

I was in the supermarket earlier today to pick up a few things. A lovely older lady served me and as she showed interest in my 2 year old (he was climbing up and out of the trolley) I decided to start a conversation with her. We spoke about her grandchildren and how crazy they were and children in general.

Not long after another older couple join the cue and as I pay and leave I notice that they begin a conversation and carry on from where we left off, grandchildren. The whole mood and atmosphere in the line changed. One friendly conversation changed it.

I have learnt people are dying for connection. To be spoken to and seen. It doesn't cost a thing to say hello how are you, and really mean it. Yet how many of us do? The days I do it always reminds me how much I must do it more.

Thank You Letter

Remember the house I drove past the other day. The one with the dog bowl and “paws for a drink” sign out front?

Well today I wanted to do something nice for them. To let them know that their act of kindness and generosity hadn’t gone unnoticed…

So I decided to write them a card with some nice words (very similar to what I wrote here the other day) and today I purchased a lotto ticket along with some scratchies to put into the card and placed it in their letterbox.

I didn’t sign my name nor mention who I was or where I lived. I didn’t do it to be thanked. I did it to thank them. This wasn’t about me and my ‘kind act’ but about theirs. I wanted them to know how much this world needs many more people like them and I hope it inspires them to continue opening their hearts and to never stop.

Paws For A Drink

For about a month now I've been driving past a home around the corner from me. On its lawn a container of some sort along with a sign. Every time I drive pass I strain my neck and head to read what it says but am never able as I always pass it too quickly. Today I pulled over to read it.

On it it reads "Paws for a drink" and is decorated with paw prints.

As I read it I smiled. I was smiling because of the love behind this beautiful persons gesture. Every day they must refill that container with clean water not for themselves or even their own dogs but for complete strangers they will never meet.

Don't ever underestimate the difference you can make or kindness you can show. It doesn't require you to spend a lot of money or be incredibly talented or skillful it only ever requires that you open your heart

Give Away The Old.

What I love ... charity.

Our neighbors across the road are in the process of moving and today I watched as the Salvation Army truck pulled up and loaded some very nice high quality leather couches. Couches this couple could have quite easily sold yet instead they gave it away for nothing to the Salvos.

I too choose to give to charities as I often as I can. Only a few days ago whilst cleaning the bathroom I noticed Gabe's baby seat he no longer uses. In that spur of the moment random moments I have I decided to take a photo of it and placed it on a for sale facebook page. I listed it as free to anyone who feels they need and would benefit from it. An hour later I had a young mother of 2 at my door taking this much loved bath seat from me.

Both her and her husband had contacted me and told how this seat came at the perfect time. Bath time for them had become a huge hassle and battle with their almost 3 year old and 6 month old. The husband was constantly trying to juggle the both of them. He told me only the night before he was thinking how handy it would be to have a bath seat. Then the very next day he logs onto facebook and the first thing he sees is my post listing a bath seat for free.

Sometimes life just works out and I love it when it does. I love how on that day at that particular time I decided to clean our bathrooms and in a random moment of me decided to put the baby bath seat up for sale and list it for free. It reminded me how we all hold onto items that for whatever reason we no longer use and no longer serve us. Items that when given away and shared benefit others in a way that it never could us. I love giving.

No Umbrella Is Wasted - Random Act Of Kindness

A few weeks ago I was in a thrift store, a place that sells second items and clothing. I was so happy and grateful to have bought so many things for only $7. Included amongst those items were some umbrellas.

I bought a few thinking we had none when in fact we already owned two. I held on to the newly purchased ones knowing that they would some day come in handy. Today one did.

We experienced some very heavy rain today and in it a young gentleman came to my door introducing and trying to sell a new service which offers fresh produce straight to your door. I was not interested however I was interested in getting this poor young man dry. He was dripping wet from being out in all this rain.

As soon as I saw him I knew what I had to do and remembered those umbrellas I had bought, so I offered him one. How happy he was and how happy I was to finally have an opportunity to put one of those umbrellas to good use.

It made me realise today that nothing we do is by accident and that there is always an opportunity for kindness. We are all here only to help our fellow humans in whatever way we can. Even if it is only offering a second hand umbrella.

Chocolates Were Only A Bonus

I received a text from Lisa today (my friend who is a masseuse) telling me I had made her day.

She told me how happy the small box of chocolates I left on her doorstep and card made her. She went on to say what made her most happy, and what she loved more than the chocolates were the words on the card. The words I wrote only last night. Straight from my heart to hers.

I have found in life that its the thought behind the action, the love behind the action, the words of love and support from your heart to anothers that people appreciate the most. The chocolates were only a bonus.

I am so happy to have made someone else happy today, but I am most grateful for my late night inspiration to shower another in love and kindness.

Always follow your heart.

Random Act Of Kindness - Spur of the moment Kindess

You know what I love?  Those little unexpected and on the spur of the moment opportunities for acts of love and kindness. Tonight I had one.

Tonight I had the pleasure of visiting a lovely friend who gives me a massage every month or two. It has been a few months since I last saw her. Tonight on the way into her house I noticed her garbage bins at the end of the driveway so I wheeled them in for her and left them beside her house.

Then during my massage she told me her fiance had left her since we last spoke (explains the bins being out so late ... isn't that normally a mans job? ha ha, totally kidding!).

All night I kept thinking of her and only moments ago decided to gift her with a nice box of chocolates (chocolate makes everything better). So early tomorrow morning on my way out I will leave the box of chocolates on her doorstep along with a nice card I wrote telling her much I admire her and how strong she is.

I love how a day can end and I love ending my days with love.

Good night all xox

Random Acts of Kindness - Books

All week I have been sorting through every book we own. Children's books, recipe books, self help, reference books, novels, them all.

We have so many, too many for one person to enjoy, so I've decided to donate the majority of them.

Most I will be donating to a book fair that raises money every year by selling used books. But then there are some, some books that touched me deeply and helped me in life in so many ways. These books I've decided to gift to those that need them. I will leave them along with a note inside explaining that "this book isn't lost nor stolen, but rather left to find, to keep or pass on, whatever is chosen is up to you as it is yours now" .

I will leave these books in random places such as bus stops and hospitals. Places where people can really use a book and places where books will impact people most (hospitals are great for leaving healing and self help books!).

I have also today gone through all our shoes, shoes that we no longer wear or use but are still in a wearable condition. I will donate and give these to those who have no shoes or for whatever reason cannot afford them.

Books and shoes, such a gift, and something we all have so many of yet there are those out there who have none. If I had my way everyone in this world would walk with with shoes on their feet and a book in their hand. Two completely priceless gifts for life and ones so many of us all take for granted.

Giving brings me joy xox

Depositing Kindness (and Donuts)

My mum worked in the Bank. She was the Bank. She loved her job at the bank. Everyone that knew her loved her. The young staff especially loved her. They would tell me how crazy my mum was and how she would make work fun, singing, dancing and doing crazy things and speaking her mind. Mum was famous for it, or perhaps infamous. She said it like was and people loved her for it. She said what everyone else was thinking but too afraid to say. Not mum. She said it!

We all loved her so last Friday when I visited the Bank where my mum once worked I wanted to do something nice. So whilst out shopping I bought one bag of cinnamon and one bag of sugar donuts and took them in and gave them to all the staff at the branch my mum once worked. I told them my mother use to work there and how much she loved it and how I wanted to gift them with morning tea on behalf of mum.

At first they were surprised and shocked as most people are when an act of kindness is bestowed upon them but that soon as passed and was replaced with gratitude and smiles.

I did this that day because I miss mum so much, because I love mum so much and because I thank her every day for inspiring me to be a better person.
